"The Burden of Fear"

Scripture Reading:
Revelation 1:17-18 (HCSBO)
And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as a dead man. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

Devotional Reading:
Hopefully our fear will drive us to God and cause us to mentally and emotional fall before Him in surrender. He can then lay His hand on us and say, "Do not be afraid." However, more often than not fear drives us to worry, insecurity, turmoil, depression and bad health.  God will not usurp our will and force peace and security into us.
Instability in our world today is at an all-time high.  Conflicts, worker and immigrant unrest, oil and gas prices, political infighting, school violence..........our news is so full of unsettled news, that it is no wonder we live in a world of fear and uncertainty.  Satan delights in these distractions, as we focus on the fear, and let fear cause us to turn to our own thinking for solutions.  As this happens, we slowly lose sight of the Rock of our salvation, our personal security and peace.......in Jesus Christ.  When we kick out our fear and other negative emotions by surrender and confession before God, He can become our peace of mind.  God, I have been trying to have security and peace by controlling everything. It does not work. I am willing to surrender my control to You. Teach me unity and freedom.
