"The Unsung Hero"
Scripture Reading:
Proverbs 31:10-11 (HCSB) Who can find a capable wife? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will not lack anything good.
Proverbs 31:10-11 (HCSB) Who can find a capable wife? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will not lack anything good.
Devotional Reading:
A pastor's wife is probably one of the most often under-rated and over-looked women in the church. A job that most women did not ask for, nor aspire to obtain. The women who live life are excellent at it. I did not say perfect. Day in and day out, she is the most likely encourager to the shepherd. She has to endure his missing meals, missing baseball practice and sometimes just plain missing because the duties of the shepherd are not 9-5. The pastor's wife is the consummate picture of hope. When unwelcomed criticism about her husband comes, she must be able to smile, grieve, pray and let it go. She is the ministry partner to her husband, the shepherd. She will encourage and be a blessing to the flock in her way, and every time get knocked down by others in the church for her involvement or lack of involvement. Her role is not laid out in the Bible of a shepherds call, but it is laid out in Genesis as one with her husband. She is strong-willed and compassionate. Submitted to the authority of the Lord and trust whole-heartedly in the God ordained Shepherd to lead her. She is the shepherds biggest ally, but yet she has none. She will be her shepherds staunchest supporter, but yet the vipers will attack her spirit, her heart and her place. She has no official place in the church, but she is the "first lady of the flock". Many will attempt to attack the shepherd by accusing and attacking him directly. These he will submit to the Lord. The attacks against his spouse as she is accused and attacked will wound the Shepherd distract him from his mission and in the long run hurt the growth and welfare of the church. I am humbled by the woman whom the Lord brought into my life after I got saved. She is strength, balance and integrity. Silvia is out-spoken at times and other times shy and reserved. Her heart is the flock she is called to... it is not just her husbands call, but hers as well. Silvia views Deep Creek as her family. She is hurt when they hurt, her heart is pierced by biting words and accusations and through it all her spirit stands strong and resilient. She is ever present with a hug and a smile. Her education is from life. She is an outstanding mother and the best shepherds wife a shepherd could ask for. To attack the shepherd is to attack her. These last several months, as I wept had sleepless nights and a stomach in knots she was the one who picked up my spirit, encouraged my heart, initiated prayer and stood in the gap while I was down. Thank you Silvia not only for being my unsung hero, but demonstrating to the flock, the true meaning of John 15:13 "No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends". It is through your selfless acts of service, much done behind the scenes from cleaning the carpet at church, fixing the meal or being there for a lady who needs an ear or a hug you bring feet to the ministry of Christ. Your humble act of love in giving up a kidney to help a friend should put all of us to shame. I am humbled by your acts of service. You, Silvia do indeed love Deep Creek baptist Church and have time and again placed yourself out there to be used by the Lord and abused by others. Thank you! I Love you... an admirer of your unsung heroics, Your Shepherd
