"Baby Food"

Scripture Reading:
1 Corinthians 4:5 (HCSBO)   Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food. Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.

Devotion & Meditation:
You have been invited to the most exclusive, must-attend event of the year.  Only the crème de la crème have been invited this year, and your name is among the best.  You arrive at the most expensive banquet hall in town.  The red carpet has been rolled out, and everyone is dressed to kill.  After an appropriate time of surface socializing, all of the dinner guests are asked to take their seats.  Each guest has their own waiter, and on cue a sea of waiters dressed in all white disperse from the kitchen.  Each waiter carries a silver platter, of which is placed in front of each guest at the same time.  Mouths start watering in anticipation of enjoying the exquisite meal covertly hidden underneath each lid.  All of a sudden, after a teasing pause, the lids are lifted and the evening meals are revealed.  Gasps are emitted all over the room!  To your dismay, the evening meal is none other than…jars of baby food!  The normal progression of life dictates that we leave certain behaviors behind as we grow and mature.  If you think about it, it would be strange for a 52 year old man to come home from work everyday and beg his wife to allow him to go to the park and play on the swing set.  Strange to say the least.  It would be strange for a 38 year old woman to eat baby food for every meal of every day.  Strange to say the least.  Just as inappropriate as those behaviors are, when we have been walking with Christ for any period of time, God expects us to grow and mature.  He expects us to leave behind the elementary thoughts, beliefs, actions of yesterday and begin to eat the solid food of His Word.  The milk of His Word, the need to be pored into all the time, is for the babies.  The strong meat of the Word, the ability to pour into others as you are fed, is for the spiritually mature.  What are you doing eating the babies’ food, with your grown self?  Lord, help me walk in spiritual maturity according to Your Word.  Use me to share what You’ve given me with the babes in Christ who need Your guidance.  In Jesus’ name…

Win or lose, I want to make sure that I make God's name great
