"Judging Others"
Scripture Reading:
Luke 6:37 (HCSB) Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Devotional Reading:Luke 6:37 (HCSB) Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
If
we judge, we force God to judge us accordingly. In this case, we have
proven our Scripture verse to be true. Not one of us can say that we
have never judged, and alternately we all have been judged by someone
else. Should we be surprised? It is our selfish, inner nature that
creates a vicious cycle. Condemning others is a sign of our own
insecurities. It is a form of power, perhaps it is control that wants
to be displayed. The more we condemn, the more powerful we feel. On
the other hand, think about how wonderful it would be to be able to
forgive and pardon everyone who condemns or hurts us. Wouldn't it feel
better to forgive than to condemn? Wouldn't this be a blessing?
Forgiving and pardoning others who hurt us is hard, very hard
sometimes. It is not a natural quality of our character to immediately
and with deep-meaning and truth to forgive and pardon. This is why we
need to lean upon God for understanding of today's Scripture, and the
magnificent promise He gives us in Matthew 6:14-15, which commands that
we forgive, truly forgive, so we can collect the blessings of our Father
also forgiving us of our sins.
Think today of someone in your life......a family member, a neighbor, a co-worker........ anyone who may have offended and hurt you in the past. Are you still harboring bitterness and anger? Have you contemplated how to "get back at them" if you had the chance? Are you judging, without all the facts?. Collect the blessings of God's promises, and make an effort to not judge, unless you really enjoy being judged yourself (This is not fun). Christians need to strive for a blameless life. Clearing out all of the past hurts pays great dividends. Once you clear out the past, the present and future begins to look brighter, indeed !
