"Fear & Weakness"

Scripture Reading:
Matthew 14:27 (HCSB)
Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Devotional Reading:
When we ask God for special attention, we must be ready to deal with God directly. When approached by Jesus, we miss His peace unless we believe the truth of who He says He is. When Jesus gave individuals personal attention, He often first required some action on their part. He would say things like, "take courage" or "don't be afraid." Jesus did not remove their fear. The individuals had to take their own action of removing the fear from their life before the peace and security of Jesus could be experienced. Turmoil and peace cannot reside together in our spiritual being. Jesus left the Holy Spirit on earth to be our Comforter. The Holy Spirit, like Jesus, can become our comfort only if we our willing and allow ourselves to accept it.
When you look around today, what can you find that doesn't reek of gloom & doom, and designed to create fear in our lives ? Just watch the news daily, and you know what I am talking about. The more fear and talk of fear we are exposed to, we become desensitized to the destructiveness of it. The Bible throughout, commands and exhorts us to not be afraid. God is a God of peace. Jesus was not afraid, even when he knew he was to die upon the Cross. We as Christians need to approach life the same way. Why worry or fear, it just makes things worse, and effects our very health. We all know our time on earth is just a speck on the line of eternity, and what awaits Christians is far more grand and glorious. When we know what our destiny is, we can live in peace, and know that when our life ends on earth, it turns into an eternal life with our Creator. We are all filled with certain fears and weaknesses. Starting today, right now........be committed towards being free of them.
