"Fragile Web's"

Scripture Reading:
Job 8:14-15  (HCSB)
His source of confidence is fragile; what he trusts in is a spider's web.   He leans on his web, but it doesn't stand firm. He grabs it, but it does not hold up.

Devotional Reading:
Yesterday we spoke of confidence and today I want to speak a lack of confidence.  You know people I am sure, that are not confident in themselves.  They look for a way to take the blame, and thrive in attention.  Unfortunately, the attention they receive is non-discriminant--they welcome positive attention (way to go, good job) as we all do.  But they also thrive on negative attention (pity, feeling sorry for themselves).  Mind you, this may not just be individuals, it could be groups, communities or churches.  It is easy to hide in the shadows, seek out pity and wallow in self-remorse all the while playing the part of a victim.  Job never wallowed nor did Job seek out advice, his friends if you call them that, decided to offer it to him.  Jesus did not seek pity, even on the cross, our Lord was not a victim but rather empowered by being in the will of His Father.  Let's face it, life stinks.  You will not impress everyone, everyone will not like you, but at the end of the day you have to know if your actions found favor with the Lord.

As a pastor and leader, I carry the burden of leadership whether people like me or not.  I answer to the Lord not them.  The followers as well carry a burden!  By Scripture they are commanded to lift me up in prayer and intercede for me.  Do I need to worry about who is praying or not?  Absolutely not, God knows and He will deal with them accordingly.  It is a rather shame on them issue.  Easily I could feel pity and loose confidence if I put my trust in people.  My trust is on the Lord.  When I reach out to Him, I will always find He has a hold of me.  It is sad that so many have low self-esteem and feel the need to attack (verbally) embarrass or look downcast toward one another.  As Christian's we are to be the salt and light.  to build up not tear down.  Some who smile and shake my hand will spend the rest of the day talking about me.  That's OK, I must confess... I talk about them every evening when I bring their name up to the Lord!  If you're the type that looses confidence easy, that feels intimidated by life's events or always feeling the need to play the pity card; let me encourage you to try something-take a deep breath, close your eyes, think about the situation, look beyond the situation and see Jesus, "verbally tell Him the story", then let it go!
You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.

Keep the Son in your eyes,

Pastor Ben J Lahay
